VLOG #54 – Grocery shopping re-invented

I know, I know many of you are tired of the word digital transformation. But Amazon Go stores really did digitally transform the shopping experience and it was about time. Experience it once, and you will be asking yourself why wasn’t it always like this?

In the traditional store, we enter, we collect the items in baskets or carts, take them out to scan (self scan or the cashier), put it in bags, if it’s a lot back in the cart and then from there into the car. Some shops have modernized it, by giving you a hand scanner or an app to scan the barcodes and put it directly into your bags. Then on the way out you pay at a terminal and then load your car. Which is good, but not good enough. At the Amazon Go store, you scan when you walk in so that technology can assign your face or the faces of your family to your account. Then you just shop as usual and when you’re done, you leave, that’s it.
